What conditions are suitable for snow sculptures?

The climate of Ukraine, where we used to live, allowed us to make different sculptures from snow. Here it was important to monitor the weather, if the weather forecast is snowfall and positive temperatures (+1, +2), and in the following days frosty weather for at least several days, then these are ideal conditions for making snowmen, barricades and whatever you want. Since there is every chance that your snow craft will stand for a long time. Usually, such suitable conditions occur several times during the winter. It all depends on the region where you live and how long the snow lies on your street.

How did we make a castle and a Christmas tree out of snow?

I remember the children who lived on our street with great warmth. When my daughter and I went out to make a snowman, the children from the street saw us and started rolling big snowballs next to us. Then I had an idea to join forces and do something together, I started coordinating the work and showing the children how to make a small snow castle and a Christmas tree. Everyone liked the idea so much that the children suggested making a small snow slide that you can slide down. Why not? It was a wonderful day. And this is what we got.

How did I paint the snow sculptures?

I came up with a very simple method for painting snow, but it is better to paint small details with a brush. Because the paint spreads. You need to take a plastic bottle with a volume of 1.5-2 liters, and make at least 5 holes in the lid. I made the holes with a hot knitting needle. You can use any convenient method. I used food-grade dye, which is used to paint Easter eggs. I poured a 2-gram bag into the bottle and poured water up to half, shook the bottle so that the dye dissolved, and then added water so that the bottle was full. I simply poured the resulting solution over the sculpture, trying to distribute the dye over the surface. It does not always turn out very neatly, but for a home snow sculpture this is acceptable.

How often should snow sculptures be painted?

Unfortunately, the durability of a snow sculptures depends on weather conditions. Even a slight warming will cause the color to fade. I usually buy a couple of extra packets of food coloring during the Easter holidays just in case I can paint my snowmen with it. The painting itself is very simple and takes a few minutes. But how bright and beautiful such a snow decoration looks.
