Why did I get the idea to paint the table?
The idea to paint the table came unexpectedly. My husband’s sister was preparing to move to a new house and gave us some of the furniture. For me, a table is not just furniture. Warm family dinners, conversations, and delicious food take place at it. I decided to do something special that would be a pleasant addition to a warm family gathering.
This is how our table looked initially

I was inspired by one book
I like the wood grain and have experience in wood burning. But the table surface was very large and I did not have a well-ventilated room to do wood burning. So I decided to paint the table surface with white acrylic paint.
A few months before I decided to transform my dining table, I found the most incredible book. Every page is inspiration. This book is called “Classic Sketchbook Botanicals” by Valerie Baines. This is a great book for every home library. You can easily find it if you type the book title into a search engine. Or click here.

I really wanted to draw something like this on the dining table. But I didn’t want to just copy the drawing, I tried to create something of my own in the process of drawing.
The beginning of work was the most difficult
I didn’t know how to start, I needed to come up with a unified style and where the flowers would be located. As I worked, I added new elements and changed my mind several times. First, I drew the picture with a simple pencil, then I painted it with acrylic paint. Below you can see a photo of how the dining table looked initially. The table was pre-painted with white acrylic paint in 2 layers so that the picture would be applied well to the surface.

Drawing took longer than I expected
Previously, I worked 6 days a week and had only one day off. I tried to devote as much time as possible to drawing, and I also did it after work. In total, it took me about a month to decorate the table from start to finish.
Below you can see a photo of how my table gradually blossomed with beautiful flowers.

The ornament added its own unique style
When I finished painting the flowers, I found that the drawing looked unfinished. I thought about painting ivy along the edges of the table, but it seemed to me that it would overload the overall look of the drawing. I went online to look at various ornaments and when I saw Celtic patterns, it was love at first sight. Celtic ornament is beautiful. I found plastic stencils on the Internet. I used them and this is what I got as a result.

As a final photo I want to add a before and after photo collage. I hope you enjoyed my article about how my dining table blossomed. See you soon.
