I have only 2 photos of this wonderful creature, the flash drives with my photos were lost forever. But I want to tell the story of this craft. I created the papier mache griffin after the dragon and the cat. If you haven’t seen the article about the dragon, then click here. If you want to see how to make a papier mache cat, then click here.
The idea to make a griffin came to me suddenly, after I had a dream about it. I dreamed that I came out to the threshold of our house, and this beautiful mythical creature was sitting on the fence. The griffin began to guard our house, it was menacing, but very beautiful and proud. I tried to touch it, but it did not allow me. I stood and admired it. When I woke up, I wanted to repeat the image I saw in the dream.
I don’t have any step-by-step photos, but I want to say that I made the papier mache griffin using the same principle as my previous crafts. I used plastic bottles as a base. I gave it volume and shape using pieces of crumpled paper, and glued pieces of newspaper on top with PVA glue. To get a smoother surface, I decided to experiment with the starting and finishing putty. I applied a layer of putty, covered it with a primer, painted it, and applied several layers of ship varnish on top. We had a beautiful large stone, and we glued the griffin to this stone.
